Pomeranians are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, and they’re known for their fluffy coats. But have you ever wondered why some Pomeranians are fluffier than others?

Why Are Some Pomeranians Fluffier Than Others? It turns out that there’s a scientific reason behind it. It all has to do with a gene called FGF5. Because Pomeranians have different hair genotypes, some are fluffier than others.

A Pomeranian with the S/S genotype will always have short hair, whereas a Pomeranian with the S/L genotype can have either long or short hair.  But L/L only has long hair. Some Pomeranians are fluffier than others due to which variants of the gene they inherit from their parents.

Some Pomeranians are fluffier than others because they have a dense undercoat. It gives them a fuller look overall. On the other hand, the Pomeranians who are not fluffy enough have shorter undercoats with shorter top coats. That’s why they don’t have as much of a fluffy appearance.

Other Effects

Other than genetic problems, some other problems affect the growth of long hair, making them fluffier.

As per my research, one of the main reasons could be hormonal problems. Hormones can cause a dog to produce less hair, making them look less fluffy.

Another reason is diet; if a Pomeranian isn’t getting enough nutrients, its coat will also suffer. Finally, genetics plays a role, too; some Pomeranians are simply born with more hair than others!

Summary

  • The main reason some Pomeranians are fluffier than others is their genotype.
  • Pomeranians with the S/S genotype will always have short hair, while Pomeranians with the S/L*genotype can have either long or short hair.
  • But L/L gene Pomeranians have long hair.
  • Other reasons that affect the growth of long hair and make them look fluffy are hormonal problems, diet, and genetics.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the main reason some Pomeranians are fluffier than others is their genotype. However, there are other things that can cause a Pomeranian’s coat to thin out.
